Camp Commander Joe Bath and Camp Adjutant David Floyd and Wives attended the presentation of a commendation to Mrs. Phyllis Oxendine, Chairman of the Gwinnett County Public Library Board of Trustees, by local Veterans Groups, for her work and support to Veterans to help them in the completion of their military service school work toward obtaining their degrees in Georgia colleges and universities. Also several of the Camp members were watching the “Georgia Gang” on Sunday morning January 18, 2009 on Fox TV. At the end of this “Left” leaning political group discussion, the program moderator, Dick Williams, made a statement in reference to remembering Gen. Robert E. Lee birthday in the coming week. This is extremely unusual for this left leaning political group to even mention any thing about the Confederacy much less remember Gen. Lee’s Birthday. This event will be a hot topic of discussion at the Camp meeting at the end of January.

Camp activity: Happy New Year! I certainly hope it is and will be. With many obstacles that have appeared within the last few months of 2008, one would hope so. We now venture into the unknown, but we must remain focused of who and what we are what we are supposed to do “The Charge” gives us that direction. The Sesquicentennial is now at our steps and we must begin work on this project as hard as before. Our main project is the Museum display, which is to add more collections to it and educate. I was really surprise when I received word from Judy Bond that several students from Heritage High came by to look at it and was amazed at the questions they asked. This is a good sign and hopefully a sign of things to come. We are still looking for stories of local residents and soldiers during the War. If these can be collected them we’ve done a tremendous job of preserving history. The War in Conyers brochure will be at the Conyers Visitors Center. With the expected revenue that Rockdale-Conyers could get from the Sesquicentennial, I certainly hope the City and County will be willing to help make many of the points of interest on the map in the brochure a place to visit and we ask the City and County to join us in that venture. Our Lee-Jackson Dinner will be on January 13th at 7:30 pm. Our newly elected officers will be inducted as well. Our Camp is growing and this year we will grow even more
