Camp #1642 of Cumming Ga. has been sending "soldier boxes" to troops in Iraq these last few months and we intend to continue our goal of two boxes per month. If we could get a few more camps of the Georgia Division to lend a hand and be a part of 5 or 6 boxes leaving Georgia on a monthly basis it would really be great for the troops, and great community relations.
We have "adopted" the 278th MP Company of the Georgia National Guard whose home base, Camp Gordon, is in Augusta. They are currently stationed at Camp Bucca which is in an isolated area and the boxes from home not only give them some "luxuries" but also, as can be gleaned from their thank you notes, give them a tangible reminder that they are supported and remembered.
In response to my first call we heard from several camps and this month we were able to send out four boxes loaded with summer sausage/jerky, drink flavorings, personal items and treats. We find that the average cost of a box is $75.00, including postage, and if you'll "jine" in we will send you a shopping list of preferred items, contact info. and required customs forms.
Or, send us a check and we will handle everything for you and we'll include your camp information and address so that you can receive their thanks. Checks can be sent to:

The SCV rightfully honors its' charge to defend the citizen-soldiers of our beloved Confederacy. But in our unrelenting dedication toward our ancestors let's not forget our own citizen-soldiers of 2008. While the uniforms and weapons change, loneliness and separation are the endless companions of soldiers through the ages. It doesn't take much to make a difference, so please join in.
